Kitten Diaries

Everyone who knows me, knows that I would never call myself a "cat person" but there may be hope for me yet. Right now four of the cutest little balls of fur have me wrapped around their little paws. :-)

Yesterday one of my neighbors cats (who had recently given birth to a litter of kittens) was hit on the road by some idiot who didn't even bother to stop and see if she could be saved. Whoever hit her just left her lying there to die... what a jerk! When my neighbor noticed that his cat was missing and realized what happened, we all went out to search for her kittens. We knew that her nest was hidden somewhere in their barn. When we finally located it, it was almost impossible to get to up in a rafter, but because of the heroic efforts of my hubby and my father, we managed to get all four out safe and sound.

I've made a make-shift nest in my office that they now call home. It's pretty comfy and warm apparently because they spend whatever time they're not eating, all sleeping in a pile of fuzzy kitty bodies. As far as I can tell, they are about 2 1/2 weeks old and according to the internet research I've done, they will need to be hand fed for the next couple of weeks. After that they should be ready to go to new homes and I will definitely be ready to sleep through the night again! :-)

Here are some pictures of the kittens that I took while my mom was holding them. Also I'm adding a clip so you all can see just how loudly these babies cry to let me know their hungry! It's amazing! If anybody has any suggestions for names, let me know. I'm trying a few out but haven't decided on any for sure yet...

SPCA Fashion Show

Hello everybody!

It's been awhile and I'm overdue for an update on whats new and exciting. With summer right around the corner and everything that comes with warmer weather, my schedule is nearly too full to keep up with. I have a lot of family events on my calendar in the next few months too so I'm just trying to stay focused and get everything done. I've got to give a shout out to my wonderful parents, Naomi and Joe. June 15th they will be celebrating their 50 year wedding anniversary!

So the big event this weekend was more fun then serious fashion, but an excellent cause all the same. Sophie (my Yorkie) made her fashion debut and hit the runway to support and raise money for a local SPCA. Backstage there were dogs of every size and color running around, all in the cutest doggie couture! It was a fun day for dog-lovers and I've included a few pictures from the show so you can all have a look.

Doing something good to help animals is always a good way to kick off the summer. If you interested in volunteering or want to find a way you can be a voice for those who have none, check out the ASPCA's website to find your local shelter or stop by your local humane society and they can point you in the right direction.

Cover Shot

Hi again everyone... Hope you all are making it through those "after-the-holiday blues" and having a good time playing in the snow and enjoying those fabulous after Christmas sales. I know I am!

I was in the supermarket the other day and browsing through the magazines when I happened to glance up and see myself staring back from a cover! What a nice surprise... Anyway I thought I'd share it with all of you. I have quite a few shots throughout the rest of the magazine as well, so if your thinking of getting a new haircut, pick up the February issue of Hottest Styles and see if anything catches your eye.

Have a wonderful Valentines Day and don't forget to tell somebody special you love them today.
Cheers,
Marla

Happy 2008!!!

Hi everybody! Hope you all had a merry Christmas and a happy 2008 so far! I'm so excited to begin a new year but despite my best intentions, I've already messed up on my new year resolutions. My friends all tell me resolutions are a thing of the past anyway but I always find it refreshing to write down goals that I think will change my life for the better. I also like the fact that a new year is like a clean slate in which all the mistakes from 2007 are behind me and I get to start over. So...with that said, my new years resolutions for 2008 include the following:

1) Be much more disciplined about working out/yoga...ie at least three times a week!
2) Eat more fruits and veggies and less junk food.
3) Get more involved with doing my part to save the environment...get my friends who don't recycle to start (yes I know it's shocking, I actually have friends who do not recycle at all!)
4) Try desperately hard to stick to my budget...who am I kidding, this ones already toast, all it takes is one pair of great Italian shoes! :-)
5) Remember to value and appreciate the time I get to spend with my parents, who won't be here forever, and to tell them that I love them often!
6) Take those last couple of horrible math/algebra classes I've been putting off forever and get my degree...finally!
7) Remember to do things occasionally that scare me, because it's important to conquer my fears and challenge myself.

So anyway, wish me luck with these, I'm probably going to need it!

Also in December I did a photo shoot with some good friends which is always fun... I thought I'd share a few shots with all of you. The photographer was Tom Carson, Hair by Sandra Carr, and Makeup by Jason Kelly. I loved working with all of them and we got some great stuff. I'm waiting on the high resolution images currently so check back later to see some new shots in my portfolio.

Bridal Show

Hi again! I just got home from doing the annual Cleveland Bridal Show and I thought I'd share a few pictures. It was a crazy busy day and I'm tired but the gowns by David's Bridal were actually quite pretty and what girl doesn't love dressing up in a gorgeous long dress and getting her hair and makeup done. :-) Speaking of hair and makeup, a salon called Lucia's was responsible for all of those details and I have to say, not only were they great fun to work with but they did a very nice job on all the models hair. I definitely plan to stop in and see them the next chance I get.

Back from Paradise!

Hey everybody! Sorry it's been so long since I've posted!! I just got back from Hawaii and I'm super excited to show you all some fantastic pictures that I took while on vacation. Typically I'm posing on the other end of the lense but I was so inspired, I decided to give photography a try myself. :-)

Just to give you a little bit of background info, I stayed first on the Big Island - Kona for eight days and then spent three more in Honalulu on Oahu. On the Big Island I stayed at the Hilton Resort (HUGE place!!) and so some the the photo's are from the gorgeous grounds right at the hotel. I was fortunate enough to be able to swim with the dolphins -- something I've always dreamed of doing -- so I'll be posting photo's of that as well. The beautiful sunset is from the summit of the volcano Mauna Kea, one of the tallest mountains in the world. The photo of the red cindercone is from the top of Mauna Kea as well.

Enjoy... and if you ever get a chance to visit the Big Island of Hawaii, I highly recommend it! Happy Fall everybody!

XOXO,
Marla

Cleveland Rocks!

Hi everybody. It's still really early on a Friday night but I'm exhausted! Mostly because this morning I got up at at an excruciating hour ( 4AM) to model in a rock and roll inspired fashion show for In Style Magazine. The reason for the early call time was because it was a live segment for the CBS Morning Show who is touring America for the summer and spent today at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in downtown Cleveland. It was a lot of fun and the undependable Ohio weather even chose to cooperate at the last minute and stop raining. I wore fashion inspired by the Beatles and, just in case you missed it, I've added a few pictures for you to check out. Enjoy and peace out!
